Madrid Airport – This spacious and well signposted airport is a breeze for travellers to navigate, and there are plenty of help points stationed throughout the building. If you are flying to or from Madrid Airport, you can be assured of a quick and pain-free departure and arrival process.
Madrid’s Barajas International Airport is located only 15 km (9 miles) from the centre of Madrid, which means gaining access to the city is relatively simply. There are plenty of buses and taxis available to take you to your chosen destination.
If you want to travel to or from the airport you could use the Madrid Metro system, which joins the airport to the city. The Metro system connects to the main train stations and trains run daily between 06:00 to 01:15. To reach the city centre, the journey involves changing trains at Mar de Cristal (Line 8).
However, it is also entirely possible for you to travel to Madrid by Bus. These buses leave from the airport’s terminal buildings to the underground bus terminal at Plaza de Colon (Route 89) in central Madrid and other nearby towns. Buses from Madrid Airport run daily between 04:45 to 02:00, every 10 minutes between 06:00 to 21:30 and then every 15 minutes afterwards.
For the less adventurous, the option of hiring a taxi to travel to the city does exist. Most taxis are available outside each of the airport’s arrivals areas at the terminals. It will take approximately half an hour to travel to central Madrid from the airport, depending on the traffic conditions. Make sure that you use the official Madrid MAD Airport Taxi cabs at all times to ensure your safety, and to stop you from being overcharged.
